Saša Šižgorič

Very good first lesson with Sasha. We went over pronunciation and then some basics since my Slovenian speaking is really bad with no prior experience. Sasha is an actress and has done work with accents and is multilingual which I feel means she will be able to sympathise with new learners and knows how to work around some roadblocks. She is also able to start from 0 as I have now seen. This means that I would definitely recommend her for beginners, especially those with no prior language learning experience. Her accent is very beautiful (as one would expect from a Slovenian speaker) and I have been told very proper/standard. I am in a niche market here but I am interested in pitch-accented Slovenian as found in e.g. Ljubljana and most formal Slovenian on e.g. TV and I have had it confirmed she uses this accent which adds to the "musicality" of her Slovenian. This means I would also recommend her to people interested in the pitch accent/tonemski naglas!

Another very good lesson with Sasha, she has a very amicable personality and is able to talk in a way that is challenging (I don't understand 100% she is saying) yet conducive to improvement (I understand more than enough to get feel comfortable, and if not I just ask), which I am slowly beginning to see after even just two or three lessons. In this lesson we did "wheel of fortune" in which every slot had a question about a different theme, which I found a genius way to have conversations about all kinds of topics without wasting time on finding a topic. It was challenging for sure but also interesting to see that - using simple and stilted sentences typical of a beginner - I was able to talk about quite complex topics. I am excited to continue and see what improvement the future will hold.

Ta lekcija je bila zelo dobra, mi je bila zelo všeč! Saša is a very good conversation partner which is what I was looking for. She manages to speak at a level that is easy enough to understand that I can follow along, but hard enough that I still need to put in some effort (which means that I can then improve based on that)! It was very neat to see that we could talk in Slovenian for an entire lesson with very little English at all! This was in fact the first major milestone I had put for myself in Slovenian and I was very surprised to see that I met it so early. Excited to continue lessons with Saša and to see what other milestones we will be able to hit! I do not have much experience with her lessons on grammar, but based on what I did see I suspect that she is quite adept at it and because she speaks Italian too I think she is quite aware of language learning struggles through lived experience, making her suitable for beginners with little experience as well (as was I).

Saša is such a great teacher! Every lesson is fun and engaging and she does such a great job of matching the level of language ability you have with the lessons and materials she provides. I've tried to learn Slovenian a few times in the past I've never felt as confident in my learning as I have with Saša :)

Zelo sem zadovoljna s Sašo. Ura je zanimiva, koristna in prijetna. Vse je bilo jasno razloženo, vzdušje pa sproščeno in spodbudno.

Sasha is a wonderful teacher! Very patient and kind, explains carefully and clearly. I really enjoyed my lesson.
