Grace

I always enjoy my lessons with Mwalimu Grace. We discuss various topics as they come to mind along with the focused portion of the class. Today we finished reading a short story that had an important life lesson. We discussed how that life lesson applies to life in various ways. We decided to continue with another short story next time. Looking forward to it!

Today's lesson with Mwalimu Grace was great! We chit chatted about Halloween and the upcoming time change. Then we went back to an old Swahili story, reading it paragraph by paragraph. There were some proverbs that I needed help with and Mwalimu explained them very well.

Had another great lesson with Mwalimu Grace today. We started off with a question I had posted in our chat about a video we watched together about the Amazon rainforest. There was a particular sentence the narrator used that I could not understand. She clearly explained that it was very casual informal language, but it made sense after she went over it. We then started reading through a Swahili reader from the 1950's targeting grades 3 and 4. Surprisingly, I found the book at my local library. It's good practice, with proper Swahili, and a different writing style than other sources we've been reading. Mwalimu Grace is helping me a lot in my Swahili journey.

I had another excellent class with Mwalimu Grace. She is a lovely person, very professional, and always comes to class very well prepared with exercises and material tailored to her students' learning needs. For example today, she prepared a level-appropriate story for me to read in Swahili and I was able to work on my oral comprehension, speaking and negating verbs, which has been a significant challenge for me. I felt more confident in my ability to negate verbs after our class, thanks to her exercises. Asante sana kwa darasa la leo, Mwalimu Grace. Ninashukuru sana kwa kazi yako.

Great lesson with Grace! Last time we learned about greetings, so this lesson the focus was on self-introductions. We learned about asking basic questions "what is your name, what country are you from, etc.", and learned how to answer those questions. Grace also explained how there are prefixes added to the verb to indicate the subject and the time. Grace is doing a really nice job of starting with the basics and introducing beginners like me to Swahili!

What a great class with Mwalimu Grace! Today we watched a video in Swahili about the Amazon rainforest and discussed it in Swahili. This provided the opportunity for me to learn some new vocabulary in Swahili and practice negating sentences. Mwalimu Grace was very patient, kind and encouraging in explaining the new words and concepts to me. Before the class she had also provided me with excellent notes and resources on how to negate sentences in Swahili.
