Connecting with people is one of my favorite things (with bonus points if it happens in a second language). I also love rock climbing, hiking, and playing retro video games (bonus points if it happens in a second language). I travel whenever I can (high points include Germany, Spain, and Mexico). I once spent a couple years living in Norway, and my secret dream is to move there again. Professionally, I have over a decade of experience of teaching and tutoring in a variety of fields. I have published translations of German and Latin poetry and presented on student success in second-language learning in the university setting. I'm fascinated by languages, linguistics, and instruction. I have a long history of teaching in a variety of capacities. I have taught in the university and high-school classroom, tutored independently, taught English as a second language, and worked as a university learning specialist for neurodiverse students and students with learning disabilities. I think that patience, empathy, and enthusiasm are some of the most important characteristics that a teacher can have, and I believe that when I meet my students where they are, we can achieve great things. I like to incorporate my students' interests into my teaching, because that usually makes progress happen faster, and it always makes it more enjoyable. I believe strongly in student-led instruction.
