Hello! I’m Suzanne Mapati, a counseling psychologist, educator, writer, and artist. I help learners build confidence in speaking Swahili while also nurturing mental wellness and self-expression through language.
I’ve published four books, three based on real experiences and one fiction, which have shaped my storytelling and teaching style. My lessons blend language, culture, and psychology, making learning Swahili both practical and deeply personal.
Whether you’re a beginner or refining your fluency, we’ll focus on real conversations, cultural understanding, and your unique communication goals.

As a native Swahili tutor, I specialize in helping beginners and intermediate learners build confidence and speak naturally. Whether you're learning Swahili for travel, work, or personal interest, I'll guide you step by step with clear explanations and real life conversations.
My lessons are interactive, patient, and personalized, you will practice speaking from day one, and I'll gently correct pronunciation and grammar so you improve fast.

Depending on your level and goals, we’ll use flashcards, grammar and spelling games, discussions, quizzes, homework assignments, and short tests to track your progress.

Great lesson with Mapati! We reviewed the sentences that I wrote about "professions" and "work vs. school". Mapati also showed how to express opinions. Mapati also explained some of the culture in Kenya, which was very interesting. Mapati is doing a nice job of avoiding complexity and introducing material at the right level of difficulty!

Great lesson with Mapati! Mapati had a good idea to describe the daily routine, and showed a video about morning routine. Based on the new vocabulary that Mapati introduced, I was able to describe my morning routine. We also learned the vocabulary for family members. Mapati really encourages and motivates me. Her lessons are very enjoyable!

Great lesson with Mapati! We learned about basic greetings and Mapati told me about the history of Swahili. We also learned about courtesies and agreement. Mapati has a nice style of teaching and the pace of the lesson was good!

Super lesson with Mapati! We reviewed the self-introduction that I prepared. Mapati pointed out where I mispronounced a word and helped me correct it. We learned more vocabulary about family members and jobs, which we used to create sentences. After that, we learned about common comparison words and made more sentences. Mapati comes up with a good lesson each time. Mapati has a really nice style of teaching and giving explanations without getting too complicated!

Great lesson with Mapati! We practiced greetings and self-introductions. Mapati identified the mistakes I made and we practiced again correctly. We also reviewed the vocabulary for courtesies and agreement. Mapati is very calm and reassuring!

This was my first lesson with Mapati. We talked about my reasons for learning, and Mapati had some very interesting things to say. She asked my opinion on several things, and spoke honestly herself. It was nice meeting her!
