I’m a linguist with a degree in English, native in 🏰 Castilian Spanish and Galician, and passionate about building bridges between Galicia, Spain, the UK, Ireland, and the USA.
Fluent in English and Portuguese, with expertise in languages and translation, I have years of teaching experience helping students go beyond grammar to truly connect with the language and its speakers.
With formal training in ✈️ tourism and a passion for Galician culture and heritage, I bring cultural insights to every lesson so you can speak naturally, grasp nuances, and use Spanish or Galician in real-life situations.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, 🎨 sketching and spending time outdoors.我的教學經歷
Ever since I graduated from university, I have worked as a translator 💻 and a foreign language teacher. I have provided private tutoring and have collaborated with several companies and town councils 🏛️, which led me to specialise in adult education through an official training course.
In August 2020, I began working with Italki. Over the past four years, I have assisted numerous individuals in improving or mastering their skills in Spanish, Galician and Portuguese, gaining extensive experience as an online tutor. 📈我的課程內容與教學風格
I am fully convinced that languages can only be learned through effort and practice. However, a lot people believe that native teachers can simply transfer their mother tongue into their students' brains. 🧠 To my mind, learning a language requires focus and discipline. What teachers can do is to coach students along the learning process.

2013 - 2014
English teacherI taught three English courses: two introductory ones (68 h) and an extension (28 h) as part of the instruction provided by the town councils of Ames and Brión in the InserAmes-Brión program for unemployed people. I was hired by Snap! and created the materials myself.
2014 - 2015
English teacherI was hired by Madrid-based Union Pacific company and worked as an in-company English teacher for two client companies: AENA, where I taught the airport director advanced English one-to-one for 60 h, and Ascensores OTIS, where I taught the manager pre-intermediate English one-to-one for 120 h.
2019 - 2019
English teacherI was hired by Lalín-based Alvalop Servicios XXI company and taught two pre-intermediate English courses (80 h) at the municipality's civil centres in the towns of Milladoiro and Bertamiráns. I programmed the courses and created the lessons myself.
2012 - 2020
Translator (EN > ES/PT)I've worked on and off as a general translator (EN > ES/PT) for the last ten years. The activity itself led me to specialise in technical and tourist translation and I'm familiar with texts such as instruction manuals, product datasheets and travel agency websites, amonst many others.

I don’t have enough positive words to describe my experience learning with Gonzalo - as a teacher he is incredibly professional, but equally calm, patient and supportive. I learn both Galego and Castellano with him and have made such great progress since starting a few months ago. Gonzalo always has a clear idea of where improvements need to be made in my level, such ability only being possible through his years of experience and natural talent for teaching. He’s such a kind and funny person who makes every lesson a joy. As a result I have recommended him to a few friends also on the same journey as myself. Gonzalo is an awesome teacher!
I'm learning Spanish and Galician with him. He is very professional, but also fun and interesting. He values your input for what you'd like to get from a class, but is clearly very experienced and has no problems guiding the class so that you get the most out of it.
His feedback is really helpful and constructive, and he is really effective at making you feel comfortable enough to speak a lot and make mistakes/ ask questions without feeling embarrassed.
I feel like I'm learning a lot, and the classes are fun, so I look forward to them each week. His English is also impeccable.

Gonzalo is a very helpful tutor. I study Spanish with him. Sometimes we practice grammar and other times we have a conversation. He writes down words I don't know in the chat which is very useful for revision. I have had several classes with him and have found it worthwhile.

I've been learning Spanish with Gonzalo since November 2023, and I can truly recommend him as a teacher. Initially, we dedicated time to grammar through a variety of exercises, which helped establish a solid foundation for my understanding. As our sessions progressed, Gonzalo naturally shifted our focus toward conversations and translations, emphasizing the value of immersion and repetition.
This approach has made it easier to internalize the language rather than just memorizing rules. I've noticed significant improvement in my understanding and translation skills, and while I’m still developing my speaking abilities, my confidence has definitely grown. Gonzalo’s practical teaching style has boosted my learning journey.
