Hi, my name is 王培玟, and my English name is Beryl. I’m from Taiwan, and you can call me Beryl or 王老師. I’ve been teaching English on and off for nine years, and Mandarin Chinese for over six years—and I’m still counting!
Mandarin Chinese is my mother tongue, and I love sharing cultural differences through my lessons. Nothing makes me happier than helping my students achieve their learning goals. I discovered my passion for teaching Mandarin after working in a variety of fields, and I’m truly grateful to be doing what I love. I hope you can find that same joy in what you do too.我的教學經歷
After completing professional Mandarin Chinese teacher training programs at NTNU and CCU in Taiwan, I began tutoring students from the USA and Australia. In 2018, I had the opportunity to teach Mandarin in Vienna, Austria. Although it was a short-term program, the experience changed the way I teach. It encouraged me to become more creative, flexible, and open-minded when working with diverse learners. Since returning to Taiwan, I’ve focused on teaching Mandarin Chinese full-time—applying what I’ve learned from each student and experience to make my lessons more effective and enjoyable. My students range from children to adults, and their proficiency levels span from beginner to advanced. Each lesson is customized according to the student’s level, goals, and interests. To prepare your lessons effectively, I’ll first learn about your Mandarin proficiency and the purpose of your learning. Most importantly, I’d love to get to know you—your background, personality, and hobbies—so that we can explore the world of Mandarin in a way that’s engaging and meaningful to you. 2002 - 2006
學士學位 - English我主修英文純文學，選修TESOL及心理學。純文學的課程有小說分析，詩詞賞讀，演講及戲劇統籌及表演等等。選修TESOL讓我有理論等基礎，對教學有初步認識；心理學激發我擅於傾聽及解決問題的個性。我樂於學習，特別是學習語言，於大學四年間，曾拿過全班第一名，也獲頒了幾次獎學金。大學生活除了有趣又多采多姿，紮實的課程更奠定了我爾後教學的基礎。
工作經驗
2018 - 2022
中文老師從2018年至今，我在GEOS擔任中文老師一職，教授對象為學齡孩童至成年人，班級大小涵括個人班到6個人的團體班，教學內容依學生年齡、生活、工作的不同而變化；教孩子的時候，以玩中學的概念，提起他們對中文的興趣，讓他們無形中聽到大量的中文，並且能自然的說出口；教大人的時候，不論身份是家庭主婦或是上班族，依學生的生活型態及需求，設計主題式教學內容，以此吸引他們多說多練習。雖然大多是面對面的教學，但部分學生回國後，仍繼續使用遠距教學上課，因此我對線上教學並不陌生，尤其因應全球面臨新冠肺炎的威脅，遠距教學成為學生無法在台灣學習中文的利器，相信我於這三年及未來更多的經驗能在italki幫助更多對中文有興趣，但需要突然回國或無法來台就學的學生。
2006 - 2012
中藉英文老師於2006至2012年間，我在台灣華爾街美語擔任中藉英文老師一職。主要工作內容為針對學員進行英文教學、線上教學引導、幫助英文老師及學員之間的溝通，了解其學習上的困難，並督促學習進度、主持小組討論之課程，促進學員間英語交流之溝通能力，以及學校活動規劃與執行。華爾街美語為一全英文環境的語文補習班，不論職員或是學生都只能說英文，以此提供學員英文環境，並減少依賴中文的情況；提倡以聽說讀寫循序漸進、自然學習的方式學英文。在華爾街美語工作的這六年，不儘提高我的英文能力，更讓我體會到何謂有用又有效率的語言學習方式；當我在教中文的時候，也善用在華爾街美語學到的知識及經驗，讓我的學生勇於開口，越說越有信心，雖然是教不同的語言，但在華爾街美語的教學經驗，奠定了我爾後教中文的基礎及我的教學風格，因此我想將這六年的寶貴經驗分享給italki的學生，以自然並沉浸式的學習方式來學習中文。

Always a nice session with Beryl. I still have much to learn and improve upon, but I never feel scrutinized or dumb when I'm in class with her. She helps facilitate easygoing conversations with useful everyday phrases in an natural manner. I look forward to attending another class with her.

I've worked with Beryl a while and I've definitely felt an improvement in my chinese directly due to our chinese lessons. She explains topics clearly and goes out of her way to use terms recently learned to cement them. She is also a kind teacher and very fun to chat with

Yet another enjoyable and insightful lesson with Beryl. She always makes you feel comfortable and at ease when speaking and she teaches you so many new words / ways of saying things that have helped me improve my grasp of the language (we discuss everything from politics to star signs to menus in restaurants!). On top of all this, we also work on writing which, as a result, has really helped my confidence in the language grow. Thank you Beryl! Until next class!

Beryl was punctual and used Chinese for the entire lesson, which helped me stay immersed in the language. She's an attentive listener—when I suggested using Google Docs, she adapted immediately.
Unlike other teachers who end at 50-55 minutes, Beryl teaches the full hour and finishes on time. Her corrections are gentle and constructive; I never felt discouraged when making mistakes.
After the lesson, she sends an MP3 recording so I can practice listening to authentic Taiwanese Mandarin pronunciation. She's patient, keeps conversation flowing naturally, and for advanced learners, she maintains full Chinese immersion without English translations.
What stood out: she started by asking why I'm learning Chinese, then tailored the lesson accordingly. If you want a teacher who respects your time, adapts to your needs, and creates a supportive learning environment, Beryl delivers.
