Resul's passion for his language and culture is obvious and is something that I look for in a teacher in addition to their skill at teaching a language. Additionally, Resul has studied and learned other languages as well so he understands the learning process and what it takes to acquire the skill of speaking a new language. He provided an overview of the language, which allowed me to start to get oriented to sounds of the alphabet and obtain an overarching idea of basic grammar (vowel harmony, cases, etc). I'm very much looking forward to learning more about the history, language, and culture of Turkmenistan.

Mehri truly is the best teacher on Italki. She helped me to be able to speak and understand some Turkmen while in Turkmenistan and I’m here still doing lessons even when back in America. I’ve never had fun learning a language until now but I love it.

I really enjoy my lessons with Maysa. She is very friendly, well prepared and makes sure I understand everything, while also challenging me a bit. From the beginning she talked to me in Turkmen during the lessons as much as possible, what will hopefully help me to get a better feeling for the language and to learn it quite naturally. That Maysa gives homeworks and checks if I learned my vocabulary, is also a great incentive for me to learn.

I had a wonderful first lesson with Shanazar. He had resources ready for me and was able to help me learn the alphabet and basic phrases. He was even able to use his knowledge of Kyrgyz (my mother tongue is Kazakh) to compare and help me understand which was absolutely amazing and helpful. He was patient and so pleasant to work with, I look forward to learning with him. It's amazing to be able to find Turkmen lessons online, I grew up far from my mother's culture and language so it's a beautiful opportunity to get to connect with the language. Thank you Shanazar!
