    Overcompensating here means that he is trying to make up for his fears by being very good in something else. For example, if a father is never home with his kids because he is working all the time, he might try to give his kids many gifts to make up for his lack of presence. This is a form of overcompensating. His giving his kids "too many" (over) gifts (compensating). If he were spending more time with his kids, he wouldn't give them as many gifts. Thus he would not be overcompensating. Hope that helps!

    I get up at 10 o'clock. I finally got a good night's sleep. I have to go to school everyday to study Japanese. I had some chicken and rice for lunch. It's not very good, but its nutritious. After that I started studying English, particularly my listening skills. Even though English grammar is easier that Japanese grammar, there are so many words to remember, that I find it challenging.

    Yes you can say that. Sometimes we unintentionally develop bad habits! For example, "I've developed the habit of smoking a cigarette every time I have a glass of wine".
