Are both sentences natural? strange things, unpleasant things etc. Such things alway find me. Such things always happen to me.

I'm very confused by gustar/encantar in these sentences: 1. A él le gusta Maria, pero le encanto yo. 2. A él le gusta Maria, pero le gusto más yo. Why isn't it 1. A él le gusta Maria, pero le encanta yo. 1. A él le gusta Maria, pero le gusta más yo.

Is this a poorly written sentence? By the way, is writing more about precision than elegance? But traditionally, a myth expressed a timeless truth that in some sense happened once but which also happens all the time.
