Hi all :)
I've just started preparing for IELTS, but still don't know how to do it. If you're familiar with the exam, please give me some advice! Any effective way to study, helpful website/youtube/podcast or anything is great for me. Thanks!

Hi Kate!
There's a channel on Youtube- IELTS Daily, which has a good bunch of resources and tutorial videos for IELTS Preparation.
Also, if you need help with the Speaking part of the exam- I do offer specialized classes for that. Feel free to message me.
Hope this helps, all the best!

You can watch some Youtube videos to see what’s going on during IELTS. Most of the Youtube videos also provide PDFs or websites where you can download the IELTS mock exam papers.
Good luck!

General advice:
1. Make a plan for how much practice per week you are going to do. As a rule, I suggest no less than one essay per week. For writing part 1, the report (AT) or letter (GT), perhaps 2 is a good weekly minimum (make one letter formal and one informal). Do not use grammar or spelling apps, at least not until after you finish writing the whole thing.
2. Use some practice listening tests and listen to as much English as possible (Podcasts, movies, TV, etc.). The listening test is not easy. Make sure you listen to different accents as the test will include a variety of major accents (English, American, Australian, etc.). You can use youglish to hear different accents pronouncing the same words or phrases.
3. For reading, my #1 recommendation is to find a novel which you want to read. Non-fiction is important for practice too, but it's also crucial that you read something which you actually enjoy. Stories are the best for gripping the attention. So find a novel which you would enjoy and read some every day. You need to also supplement this with reading articles online, etc. Practice reading tests are helpful too.
4. For the speaking section, there is no better way than to actually speak with native speakers. As much speaking practice as possible is what you need. There are so many teachers and tutors here on iTalki to help you! Just make sure they let you speak for most of the lesson time. You need the practice—just tell them that you want to do 75% of the talking in class. Like I said with listening, it's important to interact with a few different accents. So having more than one teacher/tutor is great!
Those are my general tips. If you want to know more, I recommend finding a teacher who specializes in IELTS—such as myself!
