Everyone has an accent regardless of the language — it could be a regional variety of the language or influence from another language. However, if you’re referring to pronunciation, the main goal should be effective communication first and foremost. Native-like pronunciation might provide you with some benefits but being understood is more important. :)

In some professions it might hinder you, but otherwise it isn't all that important. I like the fact that we all have different accents. I can usually tell where someone is from because of their accent. It's an integral part of our being.

It's important that your listener doesn't have to put effort or at least a lot of effort into understanding what you say.
