March 4th, 2025 28th February was my first paycheck since I moved to this new company. My salary increased and I spent the last few months deciding what I was going to buy! I ended up buying new work shoes and I’m wearing them now. I’m thinking of buying something else…

In business English, what does it mean if someone says Lets get the ball rolling? It means to begin something. You might hear this in a meeting, when the chair person wants to begin. You could also use it it in regards to the start of a project, "we need to get the ball rolling on the marketing campaign by start of quarter 3" You can also use it in a general context "I had to get the ball rolling with organising my sisters birthday party, before it was too late to book anything" Can you give an example of how it could be used?

The sky was overcast all day today. Lately, my hands have been peeling a lot, with blisters forming all over them. My mom started to worry/became worried, so after lunch, we decided to visit the clinic. The doctor checked me out and assured us that there was nothing to be concerned about. We were overreacting. To be safe though, (to err on the side of caution) he disinfected my hands and prescribed some ointment to help with the irritation. But he emphasized that the key is to focus on eating more fresh fruits and veggies.

Water under the bridge This idiom is used to talk about events or disagreements (negative things) that happened in the past that are now resolved and forgotten about. "we had an argument last year but it's water under the bridge now" "I thought that was water under the bridge? Why are we still talking about it? Can you think of an example?

In British English, it would be more natural to say "I'm studying hard in order to pass an exam and become a qualified psychiatrist"

✨ LIVE RENT FREE ✨ According to my recent poll, only 24% of English learners know what this British slang expression means. It means to constantly think about something. Here are some examples; "That annoying Tiktok song is living rent free in my head. It's driving me crazy!" "My ex has been living rent free in my head for months now" "The moment when Wales lost the final lives rent free in my head."

We've been enjoying the snow here in the UK. Here are some snowy expressions for you; snowed under - extremely busy "I'll have to work late tonight, I'm completely snowed under" on thin ice - doing something dangerous or risky "I've been late twice this week, I'm on thin ice with work" Have you heard of either of these before?
