I came across the new research about "The Method To Figure Out How Much You Are Aging" online. I would like to summarize and share some of the interesting points here. It says that the change of your balance can show how much you are aging clearer than the change of muscle strength and walking. It found out that the time to keep standing on one foot decreases 2.2 seconds every ten years with a weaker foot, and 1.7 seconds with a dominant foot. They also checked there is a correlation between the aging and other factors such as the strength of grip and knee, walking speed. The measurement value on every item above declined as we get old. The grip strength of a dominant hand declined at 3.7% rate every 10 years and the knee's one at 1.4% rate. However, the ability to maintain a balance standing on one foot deteriorated at the fastest pace. How long should we stand on one foot? A sense of balance is very important to prevent getting injured. As a guide, in the case of people under 69 years old, their balance is good if they are able to stand on one foot for over 30 seconds. In the case of the age between 70 and 79, for 20 seconds is good. In over 80's, for 10 seconds is okay. I'm turning 60 next year. So, it's about time that I need to check my balance. I'll try to practice standing on one foot in addition to workout at the gym next week.
