上次的考试小桃考得很好，题都做完了，得了第一名。 妈妈很高兴，所以给她做了很多好吃的，有鸡肉、鱼、蔬菜，还有她最爱吃的西红柿炒鸡蛋。妈妈说吃鸡蛋对身体好，有营养。 这个周末，哥哥生病了，因为天气太冷了。所以爸爸让他多喝热水，好好休息，不要喝茶。妈妈经常忘记东西，今天早上她找不到自己的手机了，小桃帮她在电脑旁边找到的。 哥哥比小桃大六岁，他很喜欢唱歌，也喜欢下象棋。他经常和朋友一起去唱歌。他唱歌唱得很好听。这个学期（semester），他们班来了一个新的英语老师，长得很漂亮，姓王，叫芳芳。 今天下班后，妈妈买了一些苹果，苹果两块五一斤，比昨天便宜。天气真冷，明天可能会下雪。妈妈让小桃多穿点衣服。哥哥就是衣服穿得太少才生病的。晚上，妈妈做了米饭、粥和白菜豆腐。妈妈说小桃吃得太少了，应该多吃一点。妈妈做饭做得很好吃，爸爸比妈妈做得更好吃。所以爸爸应该经常做饭。 听妈妈说，小桃的表哥有女朋友了，长着两个大眼睛，皮肤很白，非常爱笑，是个很好的女孩儿。表哥今年25岁了，在银行上班，长得也很帅，个子一米八，所以他们真是郎才女貌。 妈妈说他们每个星期都去电影院看电影，因为表哥的女朋友很喜欢看电影，很有意思，他们这个周末还想去。 这个星期天气很好，每天都是晴天，但是很冷。快过年了，爸妈每天都有很多事情要做，要买很多年货。虽然商店里的东西不便宜，但是质量还不错。妈妈给小桃买了一件外套，两百多，小桃很喜欢。 新年就要到了，小桃全家准备去广东旅游，因为广东是南方，很暖和，冬天有二十多度。他们已经定好了飞机票。 北京快要下雪了，时间过得真快，一年又要过去了，希望明年会更好！ 西红柿炒鸡蛋：scrambled eggs with tomatoes 营养：nutrition 表哥：cousin from mothers’ side 个子：height 年货：stocking 白菜豆腐：toufu with cabbage 就是。。。才：…. Is just that…., because…. 郎才女貌：idiom, a perfect match between a man and a girl （the beauty and the geek）

はい、こんにちは。今回はポッドキャストの8回目です。週末はこの前買ったアンクルウェイトをつけて筋トレをしました。アンクルウェイトは、0.5kgの違いでも大きな変化を感じます。ダンベルも3kgから5kgにしようと考えていましたが、いきなり重くすると体に負担がかかりすぎて、よくないかもしれません。無理のない習慣を続けながら、少しずつ増やしていく必要がありそうです。仕事や勉強のプロセスも似ています。

Hello, This is episode 8 of season 2 of my podcast. At the weekend I did some muscle training with the ankle weights I bought last time. With ankle weights, even a difference of 0.5 kg makes a big difference. I was also thinking of increasing the dumbbells from 3kg to 5kg, but suddenly going heavier might not be a good idea as it puts too much strain on the body. I think I need to increase the weight steadily little by little while continuing regularly, and not exerting myself too much.The process of work and study is similar.

先週は大学の授業でZ世代の話をしました。Z世代とは、1990年代後半から2010年ぐらいまでに生まれた人です。私はその一つ前のミレニアル世代(1980～1995年生まれ)です。Y世代とも呼ばれます。Z世代はデジタル・ネイティブなので、コミュニケーションや情報集めをほとんどオンラインで行います。大学教授にはX世代(1965年～1980年生まれ)以前の人が多いです。X世代のコミュニケーションや情報集めの方法は、電話でした。Y世代の私は、インターネットも電話もよく使います。授業では、すべての世代が集まって、考え方の違いについて議論しました。

Last week I talked about Generation Z in my university class. Generation Z are people born between the late 1990s and about 2010. I am a millennial (born between 1980 and 1995), one generation before that, also known as Generation Y. Generation Z are digital natives, so they do most of their communication and information gathering online. Many university professors are Generation X (born 1965-1980) or pre-Generation X; the way Generation X communicated and gathered information was by telephone. As Generation Y, I use both the internet and the telephone a lot. In class, all generations came together to discuss differences in thinking.

今日は休みでしたが、昔の日本語の生徒さんの仕事を手伝いました。彼女はマーケティングの仕事をしていて、Z世代の調査を行なっています。調査に協力してくれるZ世代を集めるために、私は広告を作って、東京の２つの大学に送りました。１つは私が中退した大学で、もう一つは私が通っていた高校の付属校です。「付属校」とは、同じ組織が経営している違う学校です。たとえば１つの組織が小学校から大学までの４つの学校を経営しています。付属校に行く場合は、受験は必要ありません。日本の私立学校ではよくあるシステムです。

Episode #42 - No metal, No life!

As it's already May, a lot of the part 1 and part 2 topics are changing in the IELTS speaking exam. Let's start with the topic "Describe a positive change you made in your life" with some good idioms which are explained below.

Remember this is just an example answer, and you should never learn example answers off by heart. It's very important to speak naturally in the speaking exam.


Idioms used in the example answer:

Out of shape

If someone is unhealthy or not able to do a lot of physical activity, we can say they are out of shape.

“He drinks and smokes too much, and has become very out of shape.”



In good shape

If you’re in good shape, you are fit and healthy. This  especially refers to the physical condition of your body ( being at a healthy weight, not overweight, getting plenty of exercise)


Run down

If you’re feeling run down, you are tired and lacking energy, usually after a sustained period without enough rest.

“After working late in the office every night for the last 2 weeks, he started to feel very run down.”


Full of beans

Someone who has a lot of energy might be described as full of beans.

“Young children are always full of beans, and love to run around, and play.”


Fit as a fiddle

Fit as a fiddle means ‘in very good health’ and may more often be used to refer to older people.

“My grandfather is 86, but is still as fit as a fiddle, and goes to exercise in the park every morning.”


Picture of good health

To look the picture of health simply means to look very healthy and well.

“Wow! Have you been going to the gym recently? You look the picture of health.

訓読みは、すーう

意味は、すう、すいこむ、というような意味があります。

熟語
・呼吸ーこきゅう　息を吸って、吐くこと

・吸引ーきゅういん　医療機器を使って、痰や唾などを吸うこと　たんーphlegm、つばーspit

・吸収ーきゅうしゅう　食べものなどから栄養が体に入ること。また、情報、知識を頭に入れること。

例文
・(救急車で)落ち着いて、ゆっくり呼吸してください。

・(歯医者にいる時)吸引しますね、失礼します。

・栄養の吸収を良くするには、良く噛むことが大切です。

・彼はいろんなことを吸収して成長してますね。
