Hi, and welcome back to Everyday English with Teacher Alyse! I’m so happy you’re here. Today, we’re going to talk about a small but powerful change you can make in your daily conversations—replacing the word sorry with thank you.
Many English learners, and even native speakers, use "sorry" too often. While saying sorry is important when you truly make a mistake, overusing it can make you seem less confident and even unnecessary in some situations. Instead, shifting to thank you can make your communication more positive and empowering.
Let’s go through some common situations where you might be tempted to say "sorry" and how to rephrase them in a more confident and appreciative way.
Instead of saying: “I’m sorry I’m late.”
➝ Say: “Thank you for waiting for me.”
→ Why? This shift acknowledges the other person’s patience rather than focusing on your mistake. It creates a more positive tone.

Why Is It Important to Limit "Sorry"?
Using "sorry" too often can make you seem less confident and even weaken your message. It can also make an issue seem bigger than it actually is. Of course, when you truly make a mistake, a sincere apology is important. But by replacing unnecessary "sorrys" with "thank yous," you turn negative situations into positive interactions.

Learn New Idioms and Phrases Like Throw Your Hat Into the Ring

In this episode we are going to learn 【Having meals】in Chinese.

As a beginner, there're some vocabularies that you didn't learn before, and native speaker's speed seems too fast to understand. But don't worry, let's do it step by step. 
1st time: listen and catch the words you know already, have a guess about the content.
2nd time: look at the text to check if you guessed it right. 
3rd time: listen one more time, repeat after it.
4th time: practice until you can speak as the normal speed without looking at the text.

我7点吃早饭。
wǒ qī diǎn chī zǎo fàn 。
I have breakfast at 7 o'clock.
早饭我吃面包，喝牛奶。
zǎo fàn wǒ chī miàn bāo ， hē niú nǎi 。
For breakfast I eat bread and drink milk.
我中午12点半吃午饭。
wǒ zhōng wǔ shí èr diǎn bàn chī wǔ fàn 。
I have lunch at 12:30 noon.
午饭我和同事一起吃。
wǔ fàn wǒ hé tóng shì yì qǐ chī 。
I have lunch with my colleagues.
我们一般吃快餐。
wǒ men yì bān chī kuài cān 。
We usually eat fast food.
晚上我在家吃晚饭。
wǎn shàng wǒ zài jiā chī wǎn fàn 。
I have dinner at home at night.
有时候我自己做饭，有时候我叫外卖。
yǒu shí hòu wǒ zì jǐ zuò fàn ， yǒu shí hòu wǒ jiào wài mài 。
Sometimes I cook by myself, sometimes I order food delivery
晚上饿了我还会吃宵夜。
wǎn shàng è le wǒ hái huì chī xiāo yè 。
I'll have a late night snack when I'm hungry.
宵夜我最喜欢吃烧烤。
xiāo yè wǒ zuì xǐ huān chī shāo kǎo 。
My favorite snack is BBQ.
