Episode 09：夏料理

In this episode, you will learn the French sound /ə/, also called the silent or muted ‘e’.

We start with a simple, everyday situation where the sound naturally appears – when someone hesitates and says “euh…”, just like in French conversation. Then, you’ll practice the sound in common French words and simple sentences.

Bonjour !
Aujourd’hui, on va apprendre un petit son très courant en français : le /ə/

Vous l’avez sûrement déjà entendu. 
Par exemple, quand quelqu’un hésite et dit : 
- Tu veux venir au parc ?
- Euh… je veux bien.

Vous entendez ce “euh…” ? 
Et le “je” ? 
C’est exactement le son que nous allons pratiquer. 
Il est léger, discret, mais très fréquent.

Le son E muet dans d’autres langues
Pour vous aider à le reconnaître, écoutez comment ce son existe ailleurs.
En anglais, on l’entend dans about 
En allemand, on l’entend dans bitte ou Tasche
Vous voyez ? 
C’est un petit son très léger, presque comme un souffle. [pause]

Répétez après moi : 
je

Ouvrez légèrement la bouche et laissez le son sortir doucement. 
Répétez lentement, puis un peu plus vite.

Mini exercice 
Maintenant, essayons des phrases simples. 
Répétez après moi.
"Je suis joyeux."
"Le bébé est joyeux."
"Le chat est sur la table."
"Je mange une cerise."
"Mercredi, le chat dort sur le canapé."
Répétez plusieurs fois. 
Faites attention au E muet /ə dans chaque mot.

Power Verbs:  Replace wishy-washy verbs with action-oriented ones. Instead of saying, "We could explore this new marketing strategy," say, "We will implement this data-driven strategy to boost brand awareness by 20%." This injects decisiveness and ownership into your message.

Be Specific:  Unspecific claims lack impact.  Instead of "Our product is the best," showcase its strengths with data. Say, "Our software boasts a 98% customer satisfaction rate and a 25% reduction in processing time compared to competitors." Specifics build trust and credibility.

Direct Address: Engage your audience directly. Ditch phrases like "I think" or "in my opinion." Say, "We can deliver this project on time and within budget." This conveys authority and ownership of your ideas.

Positive Framing: Focus on the strengths of your solutions.  Instead of, "This plan might have a tight deadline," say, "This fast-track approach allows for agility and capitalizes on current market trends." Highlighting positives reassures and motivates your audience.

Conciseness is Key: Eliminate unnecessary words and filler phrases.  Instead of, "We believe that this approach might be a good way to proceed," say, "We propose this solution to achieve optimal results." Concise communication delivers a clear message and maximizes impact.

I use confident language every day with my clients. I also use it with family, friends and any chance I get. Many of us use language that is unclear or passive habitually, without intent or purpose. 

One of the first habits I work on with my clients is the overuse of - I think, maybe, and I don't know. 

Start being aware of the phrases that you use, especially at the beginning and end of your sentences.

 「わたしもいっしょについて行きます。どこの病院でもそうですから。」
おっかさんの野ねずみは きちがいのようになってセロに飛びつきました。
 「おまえさんもはいるかね。」
セロ弾きは おっかさんの野ねずみをセロの あなからくぐしてやろうとしましたが
顔が半分しかはいりませんでした。野ねずみは ばたばたしながら 中のこどもに叫びました。
 「おまえそこはいいかい。落ちるときいつも教えるように 足をそろえてうまく落ちたかい。」
 「いい。うまく落ちた。」
こどものねずみは まるで蚊のような小さな声で セロの底で返事しました。
 「大丈夫さ。だから泣き声出すなというんだ。」
ゴーシュは おっかさんのねずみを下におろして それから弓をとって
何とかラプソディとかいうものを ごうごうがあがあ弾きました。
すると おっかさんのねずみは いかにも心配そうに その音の工合をきいていましたが
とうとう こらえ切れなくなったふうで
 「もう沢山です。どうか出してやってください。」
といいました。
 「なあんだ、これでいいのか。」
ゴーシュはセロをまげて あなのところに手をあてて 待っていましたら
間もなく こどものねずみが出てきました。
ゴーシュは、だまってそれをおろしてやりました。見るとすっかり目をつぶって
ぶるぶるぶるぶる ふるえていました。
 「どうだったの。いいかい。気分は。」
こどものねずみは すこしもへんじもしないで まだしばらく眼をつぶったまま
ぶるぶるぶるぶる ふるえていましたが、にわかに起きあがって走りだした。
  「ああ よくなったんだ。ありがとうございます。ありがとうございます。」
おっかさんのねずみも いっしょに走っていましたが、まもなくゴーシュの前に来て
しきりにおじぎをしながら
  「ありがとうございます ありがとうございます」
と十ばかりいいました。
ゴーシュは 何がな かあいそうになって
  「おい、おまえたちはパンはたべるのか。」
とききました。
すると野ねずみは びっくりしたように きょろきょろあたりを見まわしてから
  「いえ、もうおパンというものは小麦の粉を こねたり むしたりして こしらえたもので
      ふくふく膨んでいて おいしいものなそうでございますが、そうでなくても
      私どもは おうちの戸棚へなど まいったこともございませんし、
      ましてこれ位お世話になりながら どうしてそれを運びになんどまいれましょう。」
といいました。
　 「いや、そのことではないんだ。ただ たべるのかときいたんだ。
         では たべるんだな。ちょっと待てよ。その腹の悪いこどもへやるからな。」
ゴーシュはセロを床へ置いて 戸棚からパンを一つまみむしって 野ねずみの前へ置きました。
野ねずみは もうまるで ばかのようになって泣いたり笑ったり おじぎをしたりしてから
大じそうに それをくわえて こどもをさきに立てて外へ出て行きました。
      「あああ。ねずみと話するのもなかなかつかれるぞ。」
ゴーシュは ねどこへ どっかり倒れて すぐ ぐうぐうねむってしまいました。
