1. Your original sentence“虽然她来自北京，但她很会做饭” sounds like people from Beijing cannot cook. But I think what you wanted to say is although she is from Beijing she can also cook non-Chinese cuisine.
2. 挺好 is a comment with some reservation so it doesn’t sound very positive. if you compliment on something, you’d better use 很 or 非常instead of 挺.
