There are two kinds of Blue Herons I have seen in America. The first one is the Little Blue Heron and the other is the Great Blue Heron. This morning, a Little Blue Heron stood in a cluster of aquatic vegetation in a pond. It looked like it was sunbathing and cleaning its feathers up. One can know the color of Little Blue Herons from their name. Indeed they have blue feathers which looks like blue clothes on their bodies. Similar to Little Egrets, Little Blue Herons are a not large birds. They are from the same taxonomic family. The scientific name of the Little Blue Heron is Egretta caerulea. And its Chinese name is “小蓝鹭”. “小”=little, “蓝”=blue, and “鹭”=heron when it refers to the Little Blue Heron. Meanwhile, it means Egret when it refers to Little Egrets. Little Blue Herons are a special specie in America and I haven’t seen them before. Great! I have learned from it.
