It is the town where I currently live. It is located in the south-east of our country, Kazakhstan. Almaty was the capital of Kazakhstan before 1997 so its infrastructure is well developed. That’s why its nickname is “South capital”, although the capital is Astana right now. Almaty is a cultural city so we have a lot of sightseeing. There are museums ,theatres, parks etc. Almaty is popular because of its beautiful mountains. I think they are the main things to see. We have a big sky ice-skating rink which is situated in the mountains. It is called Medeu. Near Almaty we have many beautiful natural places to visit. There is Big Almaty Lake, Shymbulak (a popular ski resort) and Lake Kaindy( the main sight is trees growing out of the lakes). They both have very beautiful, exciting views. I would like to write some words about food. In Almaty you can find cuisine from a lot of different cultures. There is American food, Chinese food, Japanese food, Italian food, Indian food, Russian food, Uighur food and of course Kazakh food. if you would like to try our traditional food I suggest you try besbarmak, and I also suggest you try Uighur food, for example Lagman.
