Hi, I’m Iiris. I teach Finnish mainly to adult learners.
I have a Master’s degree in Finnish language and I’ve taught over 650 online lessons. I’ve worked with both private students and groups, and spent over 3 years teaching Finnish to students preparing to study in Finland.
I learned Finnish myself as an adult, so I understand how confusing Finnish grammar can feel at first. I try to make Finnish clearer, more logical, and easier to use in real life, not only in textbooks.
My lessons are a good fit if you want to:
• understand grammar clearly
• use Finnish in real-life situations
• prepare for living, studying, or working in Finland

Students usually describe me as calm and easy to talk to.
I’ve taught students from many different cultures and backgrounds, so I understand that everyone learns differently. I adjust lessons depending on what you need and what works best for you.
Since I learned Finnish as an adult, I understand the difficult parts of learning too. I try to explain things simply and create a relaxed atmosphere where you can focus on learning without worrying about mistakes.
What matters most to me is that after each lesson, you feel it was meaningful and useful for you.

I adjust lessons depending on what you need. I usually combine grammar, vocabulary, and speaking in the same lesson.
For beginners → we go step by step and start using Finnish.
For intermediate+ → more conversation, corrections, and deeper grammar understanding.
I usually use Suomen mestari as a base, but I add my own materials, including original slides and video materials.
In the first lesson, we talk about your goals and build a plan together.
You don’t need to prepare materials unless you want to use your own.
Lessons starting within 24 hours cannot be rescheduled or cancel.

Finnish language teacherEdunation provides services to those customers, who want to move to Finland for studies or works. We collaborate with the University of applied sciences in Finland, that if students complete all of our preparation programmes, they can continue their studies at University of applied sciences without entrance exams. Finnish language is the one requirement of those programmes, and I am charged with that Finnish language section (https://www.edunation.co/).

Today we went over some homework on K-P-T changes and Iiris was very helpful in providing feedback on mistakes but more importantly, helping me notice mistakes on my own, we also started working on partitive. Kiitos!

I enjoy my language classes with Iiris. The atmosphere is always relaxed, which helps me concentrate and learn more effectively. She explains new vocabulary and grammar rules clearly, and she always takes the time to answer my questions.

kiitos taas! on ihanaa opiskella iirisin kanssa! i am beginning to speak more finnish when asking questions and it now feels more natural. the lessons are always great, and there are often laughs shared. this is exactly what i needed for a hard language like finnish

Iiris is the best teacher I have had in my life. She guides very gently and explains things in a clear, structured way. She gives exactly as much information as you need — no more and no less — without unnecessary theory or “water.” She always helps you move forward efficiently, without overloading you, and creates a calm, supportive learning atmosphere.

Iiris is such a wonderful Finnish teacher. She is kind, patient, and provides a structured lesson. As someone who is basically a complete beginner, Iiris has really helped me find a learning space where I can feel comfortable and excited to take on such a daunting language. she offers structure and a plan of attack for every student. I couldn't recommend here more. Looking forward to our next lesson.
