I have worked with low-income populations in Brazilian state schools, but I also have a lot of one-on-one experience under my belt, both online and face-to-face. In 2017, I set up a conversation club at my university. Native and non-native speakers got together on a weekly basis to discuss a variety of topics — from our routines to global warming, from Taylor Swift songs to short stories. The experience was very rewarding and taught me a lot about how to improve students’ speaking skills.
