🇷🇺 You learned «ИДТИ» = “to walk / to go”… and then Russians do THIS. 😅 Because идёт is used in way more situations than physical movement. 🚶 Он идёт домой. → He’s walking home. 🌧️ Дождь идёт. → It’s raining. 🎬 Фильм идёт два часа. → The movie lasts two hours. 👗 Тебе идёт! → It suits you! / It looks great on you! So if someone tells you: «Тебе очень идёт это платье!» …they’re definitely NOT saying your dress is walking anywhere. 😂 They mean: ✨ That dress really suits you!” 💡 This is why translating Russian word by word doesn’t always work. The same verb can have completely different meanings depending on the context. And идти is one of those verbs Russians use everywhere. 🇷🇺 👇 Which meaning of ИДЁТ surprised you the most?

The Tongue Twister (скороговорка) Russian: На дворе трава, на траве дрова, не руби дрова на траве двора. Transliteration: Na dvore trava, na trave drova, ne rubi drova na trave dvora. English Translation: There is grass in the yard, and firewood on the grass; do not chop firewood on the grass of the yard! The words трава (grass) and дрова (firewood) use the same vowels and similar consonants, making your tongue trip easily when switching between them. It helps you master clear articulation of the trilled "r" sound (р) and soft/hard consonant contrasts.

🇷🇺Why do Russians say «ЕСТЬ» when nobody is eating? 😅 Because есть is actually doing two completely different jobs in Russian. 🍔 ЕСТЬ = to eat Я хочу есть. → I want to eat. Он сейчас ест. → He’s eating right now. Мы будем есть позже. → We’ll eat later. But then you hear: 🐱 У меня есть кот. → I have a cat. 📕 На столе есть книга. → There’s a book on the table. ⏰ У нас есть время. → We have time. Nobody is eating the cat, the book, or the time. 😂 Here есть means that something exists / is present / is available and it’s also used in the Russian structure for “to have”: У меня есть… → I have… У нас есть… → We have… Здесь есть… → There is / are… 💡 So when you see есть, don’t automatically think about food. Look at the structure and context. Same word. Completely different meaning. Welcome to Russian. 🇷🇺❤️
