I'm currently learning 4 languages on italki: Korean, French, Spanish, and Sesotho. My reasons are all quite different: Korean: I want to move there and teach English, but I always want to be able to get closer to my Korean coworkers who don't speak much English and help them learn it. French: My family background is French-Canadian, but do to circumstances I hardly spoke it growing up. I was 18 the first time I had a real conversation with one of my grandmothers. Learning French is a way for me to connect with a part of my life that I never felt I fit or belonged in. Spanish: Honestly, I'm learning Spanish because my company has a lot of clients in the Caribbean, and because I find it significantly easier than some of the other languages I'm learning - it's a nice brain break. Sesotho: this is one of the many native language in South Africa. Years ago I spent 2 months volunteering at an orphanage there, and for most of the kids, Sesotho was there first language. I had started learning a bit before I came back home, and I always wanted to learn more. I was estactic when I found a Sesotho teacher here! 😄 For me, I want to learn enough to be able to communicate a bit to the kids in their own language during the occasional time we connect over social media. My time there was one of the best points in my life, so learning Sesotho is also a bit like reliving those memories.

"Don't be afraid to make mistakes". I'm a perfectionist at heart, and the fear of getting it wrong makes it difficult sometimes to even answer my teacher's questions because I'm afraid that they'll either think I'm dumb for not remembering/knowing or that they'll be disappointed in me or feel bad because I'm not learning faster. However, I'm learning to accept the fact that I will make mistakes, and sometimes I end up learning better from those mistakes.One of the biggest parts of learning is learning from our mistakes - it's normal and human. I am making mistakes because I am learning :)

I only have money - this means all you have is money. Only I have money - this means no one else (maybe in your group, depending on the context) has money, just you. Hope this helps!!
