In Spanish, we use time markers to say that something is happening now or in the current period of time.
They help us place an action in the present context, even if the verb is in the present simple.
The most common ones are:
hoy en día → nowadays / these days
actualmente → currently
en estos momentos → at the moment
ahora → now
They are often used to compare the past and the present or to talk about how things are today.
Example:
Antes la gente no viajaba mucho. Hoy en día viajar en avión es mucho más barato.
(Before people didn’t travel much. Nowadays flying is much cheaper.)
