I don’t believe in AI translation Apps, for now I think. Hundred percent depending on that apps could make silly mistakes. I’ve seen a post from an English teacher who was learning Mandarin. The learner showed great interest in Chinese culture and talked about the differences between that and her own. She mentioned taking off shoes while entering home is a good and healthy custom, blamed her father for often walking around with muddy boots at home in the mean time. Here is what she said, “my father is vile(in Mandarin)”, but according to the context, she apparently remarked her father didn’t care that much and was a bit slovenly. The disapproving term in Mandarin covers the both of meanings above, it’s likely to be tricked of simply glancing at translation Apps or some online dictionaries. Just now, I texted “get a grip on…” on Google Translate, it gave out an output kind of “calm down” in Chinese though. To summarize, for correct understanding of specific content by an unknown language, I practice what it should be, rather than seeking quick help from AI.
