This is a special Chinese festival that we seldom introduce it to foreign feinends. It's the Ghost Day. Though its name sounds very scary, it's just a festival that we are in memory of our ancestors. So, it's nothing about ghosts on that day.It is also very different from the Hallows' Day which is celebrated for fun. On the Ghost Day, the relatives who have the same ancestors gather together and visit the graveyard where their ancestors buried. In Chinese culture, after people passed away, their offsprings think that something special and important are passed down from their accestors. These things teach them to work hard to have a better life or to be a kind person. It's just like a root of a family. All the offsprings follow the rule to do a living. In order to let all the relatives remember their ancestors' edification, all of them show their respect for their ancestors and share each other's interesting things about their life on that day. If it's possible, a picnic is necessary. So, the Ghost Day is not only for the past, but also for the wonderful future. The Ghost Day of this year is on the Lunar July 15th every year.

I usually enjoy historical series because I like learning about the past. I also like programs about animals. Two of my favorites are Crikey! It’s the Irwins and Africa’s Hunters. I love animals, though I’m not too fond of reptiles and amphibians, so part of the reason I watch these shows is because I believe learning about things I fear makes them less scary. Steve Irwin was my childhood hero. When I was younger, I used to watch his adventures, so seeing his family carry on that mission now makes me feel connected to those memories and somehow nostalgic. Also, they are such a wholesome, kind family and Steve’s wife has done a great job raising their children. They’ve turned out wonderful. Africa’s Hunters is another favorite because it shows the raw side of nature. My favourite episode was about a tiny misfit lion cub. He was only six weeks old and was rejected by his mother. He had to survive the African wilderness alone. He faced predators, dehydration, rival lions but somehow this little cub held on. Against all odds, he showed incredible resilience and in the end was accepted back into his pride. Nature is strange and cold sometimes but when I see this kind of strength, it inspires me in a way that sometimes even humans can’t.
