There are many ways to learn vocabulary. Have you tried using flash-cards? In your case, a flash-card would be a piece of paper with an English word on one side and its Chinese translation on the other. You look at the English word and try to remember its Chinese translation; or you look at the Chinese word and try to remember the English translation. It's a very basic technique, but its still effective and worth a try. There are many free applications for your PC or mobile phone that allow you to make digital flash-cards, such as "Quizlet", and many of these allow you to use flash-cards that other people have made. The added benefit of having something like this on your mobile phone is that you can fit learning around your schedule - you can have a quick vocabulary session when waiting for the bus or in a queue for example.

You need to find a method that works for you. Different people learn in different ways. What works for me is to use flash cards and to review the words again and again over a period of time until I'm sure I know them. I like to look at the word in my own language and try to remember what the translation is. It hurts your brain but I find that it works well.

Alina: Begin writing simple sentences using the Most Common words. These words can be found in something called "The Dolch List". (I can help you find that and work with it if you like. Follow the simple SUBJECT/PREDICAT or NOUN/VERB construction. The simplest sentence is like this of course. "I am".
