What's the difference between tourist, holidaymaker and visitor?

I always use tourist when I need to write some travel articles, but I don't know what the difference between tourist, holidaymaker and visitor is? Can you know it and which situation wil you use them in? Does it common use in UK/US?

So, holiday maker does not exist in US English. The rough equivalent would be vacationer, but it’s not a common word in US English — it sounds made up. Going on vacation is a less common occurance, and a bigger deal, in the US than going on holiday is in British English.

Being a tourist means someone is sightseeing in a place they have traveled to. Visitor is a more general word for anyone who goes anywhere to see something or meet with someone. You can be a visitor of your sick grandma in the hospital in your own city.
