A team is organized for producing something for people, or complete a work. The members of this team could be something like machines, tools, or warehouses. The whole team is called "设备".

Normally 设备 is highly relevant to manufacture production. So if I explain to kids, I will say 设备 is the machine in factory to help us produce products. If you want to mention equipment for other purposes, eg. Ski equipment, in Chinese it is better to call them 装备.

Chinese children are familiar with 装备
