Is it possible to rephrase this sentence like this? if not, what is the difference in meaning? Curriculum can refer to a wide range of things, but generally refers to the material being taught and the sequence. Can I put " that is taught" instead of "being taught" ? or even if I change it to "materials" can I use " that are taught" instead? Curriculum can refer to a wide range of things, but generally refers to the material(s) that is(are) taught in sequence.

Yes, both are correct. There is no difference in meaning between the two - or it's so negligible I can't discern it :)

I would write: Curriculum can refer to a wide range of things, but generally refers to the material that is taught and the sequence in which it is taught.
