My friend Carol and I decided to have a short break at the seaside for a few days. We made a reservation at a hostel in South Wales where the prices were very reasonable. We were looking forward to a few days of sunbathing, seeing the sights and eating delicious food. However, it turned out that the hostel was in a very remote location with no beaches, cafes or facilities nearby. Seeing the heavy rain, we headed home the following day.

Éste, queridos amigos, es un episodio diferente a los demás. Porque hoy voy a hablar sobre nuestro camino financiero, un tema que nos atañe a todos, independientemente de nuestra cultura.  

Tanto los gurúes financieros como los libros que tratan sobre este tema, remarcan constantemente la necesidad de rodearse de gente con objetivos afines a los nuestros. Y esto implica, muchas veces, alejarnos un poco de nuestro entorno. Resulta coherente, ¿verdad? Uno siempre termina pareciéndose al promedio de las personas con las que más se relaciona. 

Por lo tanto, si nosotros deseamos cambiar nuestra realidad financiera, necesitamos un contexto acorde para lograrlo. Por ejemplo, una persona obesa que desea alimentarse mejor, no asistirá a una reunión con amigos a una pastelería. De este modo, debemos buscar grupos de gente con la que podamos compartir nuestro aprendizaje y experiencia financieros a fin de nutrirnos mutuamente. Podemos comenzar con nuestras redes sociales, buscar webinars, pequeños cursos que se ajusten a nuestro nivel, participar de masterminds, y obviamente, dedicarnos a leer un buen libro cada tanto sobre nuestro tema de interés. 

De esta forma, lograremos transformar progresivamente nuestros pensamientos, lo que nos permitirá acercarnos cada vez más a nuestro objetivo financiero. 

Y como dijo Menandro de Atenas alguna vez, “Bienaventurado el que tiene talento y dinero, porque empleará bien este último”.

Welcome back to another episode of Streetwise English. I'm your host, Carl. Today I want to talk to you about a new sport. This sport is growing, and it is very similar to golf. However, this is disc golf. So disc golf is like golf, except for you use a disc and instead of holes there are baskets and you will see the baskets with these chains hanging down and with a kind of a bucket thing.

And you throw the disc or the Frisbee into the chains. And then that counts  like putting the ball into a hole in golf. So the sport is great because there are a lot of free courses that you can play disc golf or Frisbee golf in. And just like golf, there are usually nine or 18 holes or baskets.

And the goal is to throw the disc, the Frisbee into the basket with as few throws as possible. So, for example, like in golf, you might have a course that is like par, par three. It takes three shots to get it into the hole So the same thing with disc golf, you have a par three course or par four.

So you're trying to get the disc into the basket in three throws or less. Now, some of the challenges with the disc golf courses are trees or obstacles. So sometimes the course will have a tree in the way and you'll have to throw the disc in a way that the disc curves around and goes around the tree so that you can get a clear look at the basket. Another interesting thing is that the discs are made of plastic according to Wikipedia.

Here it says that the discs are made of polypropylene, which is a thermoplastic polymer resin. So it's a very dense plastic And they're smaller in size than a Frisbee that you think of. Like from when I was a kid, I remember the Frisbees were quite large. But these Frisbees are small and there are different Frisbees for different throws.

SWE12 What the heck is Disc Golf?

People who spend a lot of time sitting down might reduce their health risks by drinking coffee, a new study suggests.

Researchers from China wanted to look at the health effects of coffee drinking and time spent sitting.

They looked at health data for nearly 11,000 people in the US and followed them for up to 13 years.

During the period of the study, 945 people died, including 284 from heart disease.

The research team found that people who sat for over eight hours a day were almost 50% more likely to die from all causes, and nearly 80% more likely to die from heart disease.

That's compared to people who sat for fewer than four hours per day.

Sitting for a long time has been linked to increased risks of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and more.

The researchers also found that people who drank the most coffee — three or more cups per day — reduced their risk of death from all causes by over 30% compared to those who drank no coffee. And they were more than 50% less likely to die from heart disease.

And drinking coffee even seemed to protect people from the health risks of sitting down: coffee drinkers could sit for more than six hours a day and still have about the same risk of death as non-coffee drinkers who sat for less than six hours.

However, the researchers said they didn't look at the effects of different types of coffee on our health, so they couldn't be sure which type was best.

They wrote that more research would be needed on this "miracle" drink.
