"I want to learn English."  This is the wrong goal!

Some people say that choosing the wrong goals can lead to self-sabotage.

When it comes to learning English (as it's the wrong goal in 90% of cases for my adult achievers), it leads to: A) lack of confidence (at some point in speaking); B) continuous self-doubt (on various levels). C) Never really experiencing delight and self-satisfaction about your progress.

Can you relate to any of the things I wrote above? Almost certainly, you can; some can confirm all three aspects.

What do you mean "かっぽり”?　Learning the Tohoku dialect. 

C’erano una volta una volpe e una cicogna che si consideravano buone amiche.
Un giorno la volpe invitò a pranzo la cicogna; per farle uno scherzo, preparò della minestra e la servì in due vassoi piatti: la volpe riusciva a leccare con facilità la minestra nel suo vassoio, mentre la cicogna riusciva a malapena a bagnare la punta del becco nella minestra.
“Non ti piace la minestra?” chiese la volpe alla sua amica. “È buonissima, non preoccuparti; anzi, è così buona che son già sazia”.

Qualche giorno dopo, la cicogna ricambiò l’invito: voleva restituire lo scherzo alla volpe. Arrivato il giorno del pranzo, imbandì la tavola ma mise tutti i cibi in vasi dal collo lungo, come quelli che si usano per i fiori. La cicogna infilava il suo lungo becco nei vasi, gustandosi i manicaretti prelibati che aveva preparato. La volpe, invece, per quanto provasse ad infilare il muso e ad allungare la lingua, rimase a bocca asciutta.
“Non ti piace il pranzo che ti ho preparato?” chiese la cicogna. “Figurati, è delizioso. Così buono che sono già sazia” rispose la volpe. E così la cicogna si vendicò dell’amica burlona.

Landing your dream job hinges on more than just qualifications and experience.  The ability to communicate effectively can be the tipping point between an "interviewee" and a "new hire."  Here's how preparation in business communication can propel you towards that coveted job offer:

1. Research is King:  Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to the company you're targeting.  Research their mission, values, and current projects.  This not only demonstrates genuine interest, but also allows you to tailor your responses and showcase how your skills align perfectly with their needs.

2. Craft Your Elevator Pitch:  Imagine a concise, impactful summary of your skills and experience.  This "elevator pitch" could be your first impression, so practice delivering it with confidence.  Focus on achievements and quantifiable results, leaving a lasting impression on potential employers.

3. Anticipate Interview Questions & Prepare Answers:  Common interview questions are a dime a dozen.  Research them online and prepare clear, concise responses that highlight your strengths and accomplishments.  Practice out loud to refine your delivery and ensure you come across as articulate and well-prepared.

4. Dress for Success:  First impressions matter, and your attire speaks volumes.  Research the company culture and dress accordingly.  A professional appearance conveys respect and demonstrates your commitment to the role.

5. Body Language Matters:  Beyond words, nonverbal cues significantly influence how you're perceived.  Maintain eye contact, project confidence through good posture, and avoid fidgeting.  These subtle signals communicate professionalism and enthusiasm.
