Cuenta la leyenda que una mujer, desesperada por el abandono de su esposo, perdió la razón y terminó ahogando a sus propios hijos en un río. Al darse cuenta de lo que había hecho, llena de culpa y remordimiento, se lanzó también al agua.

Desde entonces, su espíritu vaga por los caminos, especialmente cerca de los ríos, llorando por sus hijos y buscando a los niños que encuentra a su paso. Su grito es desgarrador y aterrador: “¡Ay, mis hijos!” Es común escucharla en las noches de luna llena, y muchos dicen que si alguien escucha su llanto cerca, en realidad está lejos; pero si la oyes a lo lejos, es mejor que corras, porque significa que está muy cerca de ti.
