こんにちは、Japanese with Yoshikoへようこそ！今日は先週サウジの家で開かれたウェルカムパーティーついてお話しします。今日のフレーズは「決まって」です。意味を知らない人はどういう意味か想像しながら聞いてみてくださいね。

先週末、サウジの家族が私たちのためにウェルカムパーティーをしてくれました。夫の両親、兄弟、その家族、私たちの合計14人が参加しました。今からちょうど1か月前に予定していましたが、みんなの予定が合わなかったり、体調が悪くなったりして先週末になりました。サウジの家族は大家族で、よく親戚の結婚式や誕生日会などのイベントに参加するので、なかなか予定を合わせるのが難しいです。
サウジの休日は金曜日と土曜日で、今回は木曜日の夜に行われました。サウジ人は夜型の人が多いので、小さな子供がいても夜にパーティーをするのは普通です。18時ごろから集まり、各自が持ち寄ったスィーツを食べたり、アラブの伝統的なコーヒーを飲みながらゆっくり話します。家族にもよりますが、うちの家族は男女別々の部屋でパーティーを楽しみます。私はお姉さんやお兄さんの奥さんと幼稚園の話をしたり、妹と美容や彼女の猫の話をして家族の時間を楽しむことができました。彼女たちとはよく家で会いますが、意外とこういう機会がないとゆっくり話ができないんですよね。
21時ごろからやっとディナーが始まりました。大きなパーティーの時は決まってズィビーハという羊肉が乗ったご飯の料理が出ます。（詳しくは第三回のエピソードを聞いてみてください。）でも、この料理は高すぎるし、息子も好きではないので、今回は子供たちも食べやすいように、ブッフェ料理を注文してくれました。息子は久しぶりのイタリアンパスタを美味しそうに食べていました。
お兄さんとお兄さんの子供たちは体調が悪いのに参加しました。何度かこのパーティーが延期になったので、家族のために無理をして来てくれました。家族の繋がりを大切にしたいというサウジ人の一面を垣間見ることができました。

Elena y Adrián se conocieron en la universidad y, desde el primer día, sintieron una conexión especial. Pasaban horas hablando, compartiendo sueños y apoyándose en los momentos difíciles. Se amaban profundamente, pero el destino tenía otros planes. Adrián recibió una oferta de trabajo en otro país, una oportunidad que no podía rechazar. Ambos prometieron mantenerse en contacto y esperar el momento en que pudieran estar juntos de nuevo.

Los meses pasaron y la distancia se hizo cada vez más pesada. Las llamadas se volvieron menos frecuentes, los mensajes tardaban en responderse y, poco a poco, el amor que tanto los unía comenzó a desvanecerse. Elena sabía que lo mejor era dejarlo ir, aunque su corazón se rompiera en el proceso. Una noche lluviosa, recibió un último mensaje de Adrián: "Siempre te llevaré en mi corazón, pero el tiempo nos ha cambiado".

Elena salió a caminar bajo la lluvia, sintiendo cómo las gotas ocultaban sus lágrimas. Sabía que el amor no siempre termina con un "para siempre", pero eso no significaba que no hubiera sido real. A pesar del dolor, sonrió con melancolía, recordando cada risa, cada abrazo, cada promesa. A veces, el amor es eterno solo en los recuerdos.

Today's phrase comes from the Analects of Confucius, a Confucian classic. The Analects of Confucius tells the story of what Confucius said and his conversations with his disciples.

Seeing the wise, think about doing the same wise; seeing the non-wise, think about reflecting on your own faults. The meaning of this sentence is that when you see the virtues of others, you learn from them, and when you see people without virtues, you must reflect on whether you have the same faults.

Confucius gave us a lot of guidance and inspiration on how to live a life. Many people, seeing the virtue of others and being respected by everyone, will not only learn, but would be jealous. Such a person, Confucius said he is a "small man", not a noble man.

If you can do this over time, you will have more growth, make more progress, and be more respected by everyone to become a modern time “noble man”.

当我还只有六岁的时候，在一本描写原始森林的名叫《真实的故事》的书中，看到了一副精彩的插画，
Once when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest.
画的是一条蟒蛇正在吞食一只大野兽。
It was a picture of a boaconstrictor in the act of swallowing an animal.
页头上就是那副画的摹本。
Here is a copy of the drawing.
这本书中写道：“这些蟒蛇把它们的猎物不加咀嚼地囫囵吞下。”
In the book it said: “Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing it.

然后就不能再动弹了；它们就在长长的六个月的睡眠中消化这些食物。
After that they are not able to move, and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion.

当时，我对丛林中的奇遇想得很多。
I pondered deeply, then, over the adventures of the jungle.
于是，我也用彩色铅笔画出了我的第一副图画。
And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing.

It looked like this:I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them.

But they answered: “Frighten? Why should any one be frightened by a hat?”

My drawing was not a picture of a hat.

是一条巨蟒在消化着一头大象。
It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant.
但由于大人们无法理解它,我做了另一个图:
But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it,I made another drawing:
于是我又把巨蟒肚子里的情况画了出来，以便让大人们能够看懂。
I drew the inside of the boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly.
这些大人总是需要解释。
They always need to have things explained.  
My Drawing Number Two looked like this:
大人们劝我把这些画着开着肚皮的，或者闭上肚皮的蟒蛇的图画放在一边，
The grown-ups’ response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors,
还是把兴趣放在地理、历史、算术和语法上。
whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar.

就这样，在六岁的那年，我就放弃了当画家这一美好的职业。
That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter.
