Lets learn some homophones (also known as homographs or homonyms)
Homophones are words that are pronounced the same as another word but differ in the meaning. It can be spelled the same (ex. rose (type of flower) or rose (past tense for rise) or differently ( principal (head of a school) or principles (rules).
Here are some examples:
All ready, already.
We have purchased our tickets, packed our suitcases and were <em>all ready</em> to board when we were informed that the plane had <em>already</em> departed.
ball, bawl
When the <em>ball</em> bounced over the fence and out of reach, the child began to <em>bawl</em> and sob.

Phrases, Expressions and Sayings
Here are some Phrases, expressions and sayings that are used in the English language.
"Break A Leg!" how often have you heard that? Break a leg simply means "GOOD LUCK" even though the words wish the opposite. This phrase is often use in the theater were performers would say "break a leg" to wish someone good luck.
Ex. Break a leg in your performance today.
"Put a sock in it" it means to tell someone to be quiet. This saying came from the earlier days of sound productions and radio broadcasts the way to reduced the volume of the sounds they would "put a sock in it"
Ex. She talks too much, tell her to put a sock in it.
"Doubting Thomas" means physical proof before believing in something. Thomas or shall I say Saint Thomas is one of the twelve apostles of Christ. St. Thomas would ask for physical proof of Christ's Resurrection before he could believe it. When Christ appeared in front of him and had Thomas touch his wounds, he became the first person to acknowledge Christ's divinity.

Doesn't it drive you crazy when having to proof read other people's essays and their mistakes are always the same? I mean, when you proof read and they are unable to correctly use the words "to, too and two" or "there, their, and they're". And these are from people that been learning English since they were born.
