Top 1% English Teacher on Italki with more than 17 years experience teaching adults and children. Hello! My name is Josh, and I’m from Chicago, USA. I enjoy helping students feel confident using English in real life. I graduated university in 2008 and earned my TESOL certificate before moving to Seoul, South Korea, where I taught English for 7 years. I can also speak and read Korean (한국어 말하고 읽을 수 있어요!). I’ve been teaching on Italki since 2017, working with students from around the world. I have 17+ years of experience, including 10 years online, teaching all ages and levels—from young learners to professionals. My lessons are interactive, communicative, and personalized to your goals. I encourage both adults and children to speak freely, make mistakes, and improve through feedback. I also provide notes after each lesson so you can review your progress. For kids, I use Oxford’s Everybody Up, Oxford Discover series textbooks plus songs, games, phonics and activities to make learning fun and effective. In addition I use Reading Explorer and WonderSkills to build reading, vocabulary, and thinking skills. I also help students with KET and PET test prep. For advanced children we often do debate, discussion, interview prep etc. For adults, I provide flexible, personalized lessons for all levels, focusing on conversation, grammar, IELTS speaking, job interviews, professional English, and adapting to life in English-speaking countries. We have been teaching with Josh for 12 months since last summer. We are very satisfied. Josh has the ability to organize lessons in a more interesting format if the child is not in a good condition and to bring out his abilities. And Josh has a good understanding of South Korea, so when a child doesn't know a certain word, he can often explain it in Korean. This is a great advantage that is hard to find in native speakers.
