Hi! I'm Nafal, a language researcher & instructor based in Ghent, Belgium/The Hague, The Netherlands. I taught German and led Dutch conversation hours at a university in the United States, and I have tutored learners of English, German, and Spanish in 1:1 settings, both online and in person.
Languages have always been a big part of my life, as I grew up bilingual speaking Dutch/Flemish and Spanish, and I have always been an avid language learner myself. That means that I know very well what kind of struggles you are running into, and I hope to be able to share what I have learned both by experience and by training with you!

I have a PhD in applied linguistics and a certificate in language teaching, which means that I have quite the training in second language acquisition, language pedagogy, and educational psychology. In our conversation sessions, I will make sure to not only support your language learning process, but also your confidence as you learn to own the language and make it a part of your life. Because of this, I find it very important to go over topics that are important to you, your life, and the reasons why you are trying to learn a new language.

I am a very patient teacher and a person who loves to listen to people talking about their passions. In our conversations, comprehension and communication will be central. This means that we will make as much room for mistakes as possible, so you can feel comfortable to try to play with the language and to get your point across in a judgment-free zone. This does not mean that I will not correct you: Feedback is very important, and I will make sure to guide you and give you the necessary support.我的教学资料

Nafal is a very competent tutor who creates a comfortable environment for speaking. She notes any mistakes or irregularities during the conversation and sends helpful corrections in the chat which is especially helpful because (a) it allows the student to focus on speaking without interruption and (b) the student benefits from detailed feedback afterwards. I'm looking forward to our next lessons!
