As much as I don't have much experience teaching adults, I believe that adult minds have the advantage of already mastering at least one language. Having spoken a language for at least 2 decades comes with experience and knowing language structure. Adults are able to learn with what I can call language intuition something that young learners do not have due to lack of experience in life. I find it's best to learn with someone who is warm, patient, playful and attentive to your needs. That's how I aim to be with my students! As a young girl, I used to teach my friends and younger kids in my neighborhood different subjects. That is when I developed my passion for teaching. I enjoyed watching them learn and grow and develop confidence and pride in themselves. Some Swahili teachers make things very formal, structured and heady (But that can be stressful--and boring!). I find that my students learn best in a relaxed, comfortable and connective conversations--the same way as we learned to speak as kids.
