Speech, language, and communication skills are crucial to young children’s overall development. Being able to express ideas clearly and interact with others are foundations of a child’s development.

People who have been learning second language from their childhood usually know this language better than ones who start their learning process at more mature age. They can even become as good communicators as native speakers, in spite of the fact that their target language isn’t spoken by their relatives. I‘ve seen loads of videos where little children speak in different languages with natives like they are ones. On those TV-shows parents always said, that they had decided their kids to learn languages so early just to receive cooler results faster. And I think it makes sense, the sooner the better.

I started to study English when I was very young, when I was 7 years old. But before that, I was already curious about the language, when I put the DVD of Barney and Friends in English subtitles and audio, for example. Even when my formal study of grammar was on pause, I believe that this early contact was instrumental in making my use of English sounds and structure much more natural! Now, I try to turn that interest into concrete language proficiency

It’s never too early to begin learning a language: it’s fun, it promotes healthy development, and there are plenty of cognitive and social benefits which will last a lifetime. Learning a second language at a young age puts one in a much more better place in terms of having more advantages. In my opinion I believe that Children who learn another language before an age of five use the same part of the brain to acquire that second language that they use to learn their mother tongue. Younger learners are also not influenced by the fear of making mistakes, which is sometimes an obstacle for older beginners. When one is still in early age, it is most likely that there will be no fear of making mistakes which makes it much more easier and fun to learn. A lot of Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. What this means to me is that Children that start learning second languages end up showing signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility. This is a big advantage for the youngsters because the cognitive benefits of learning a language have a direct impact on a child’s academic achievement. Compared to those without an additional language, bilingual children have improved reading, writing, and math skills, and they generally score higher on standardized tests. That is my opinion and what I believe to be true so don’t hesitate to allow your kids to start learning a second language at a young age.

#RisingBilingualStar My wife and I are making an emphatic and deliberate effort to raise our 2 boys trilingual. And so, far we're winning at it! We are doing this for the grandparents, and to give our kids the superpower of multilingualism. Our kids speak fluently Spanish, English, and Polish. Fingers crossed they'll remain like that. We live in New York City, so English is the dominant language. We gotta be diligent! We are starting to see how English, being the common language in society, pushes our kids toward speaking English. It's the "cool" language their friends speak. Fortunately, there's a lot of Polish and Spanish around. Also, it's normal in NYC for families to be like ours. I am grateful for having this environment.

First of all when choosing a language consider the usefulness of the language, I always like to choose a language with which you can connect with as many people as possible, besides that it should be a language that you are passionate about, anyone can improve their skills in the second language is that they are exposed as much as possible to it, listening to music, watching movies and series, and talking to native speakers would be ideal.

From my experience, learning a languages really help for me to widen my world view as well as understand different cultures with more depth. When choosing what language to learn, I make sure there is that innate interest that will help motivate me to push forward. I will definitely encourage these same habits for my future children. I think have kind and encouraging tutors are the most helpful for me so I will strive to have that available for my future kids.
