With the increase in computer use, many think schools do not need to put the emphasis that they used to on basic handwriting skills or mental mathematics skills. To what extent do you agree? In light of widespread of digital devices, it is often said to be no longer neccesary for schools to emphasise handwriting or mental mathematics skills. I tend to disagree with this opinion because training for these skills helps students enhance literacy and reasoning skills. Analogue skills play an important role for children's cognitive development. Practice for handwriting assists children in connecting letters and sounds. It is also effective for memorising correct spellings. Mental mathematics exercise grows children's abstract operational skills. In addition of these foundational importance, these abilities are useful in real life even when technology is almost always accessable. Intelligible handwriting conveys meaning clearly, showing care for readers. Mental calculation makes it easy to compare prices at shopping. On the other hand, it is true that the opportunities to write by hand is decreasing thanks to keyboard. Typed documents are preferable in most academic and business settings. Similarly, digital devices are faster and more accurate to handle numbers. Given these advantages, it sounds somewhat reasonable to claim that schools focus less on analogue skills and more on digital literacy. To summarise, although they may have been losing their practicality gradually, I think handwriting and mental mathmatics are still important skills taught at school.

Of course, we should. But, if I understood the question correctly, I think, those ways are not an opposite of each other. Both of them are important and right. We can build relationships in real and online life, maintain them by personal communication or on social networks. All of it depends on situations and possibilities of ourselves.

I watched the movie, “The Fall Guy” today. According to the Japanese movie pamphlet, the word of fall guy has two meanings. One is a stunt word. A person who acts at a high place is called fall guy. Another is a figurative expression. A person who does a dangerous thing for deep love is called fall guy. Is that correct? It’s so interesting.

I think internet is the greatest invention in the history because it keeps us connected to each other all over the world

It was overcast today. Alas! My super-duper comfortable chair was broken. The slider on the backrest had a stripped screw and wouldn’t stay in place, causing the back to slide down. A chair without a backrest is basically a stool. That wouldn’t work! But I got Dad! He examined it and came up with a practical idea. He drilled a hole in the bar under the slider and attached a screw and nut in the right position to prevent the back from sliding down. Of course, it was easier said than done, though. He put a lot of effort into disassembling and assembling the chair, cursed a lot about its design. I watch and learn, (not the cursing part surely) and maybe one day I can become a good fixer too.

I think it is a helpful tool for us to use money It does help people in trouble to solve some urgent problems. It can also give normal people the opportunity to enjoy in advance through paying by installments. But some people will blame credit card because they think it is the chief culprit that causes overspending and unhealthy finance situation. I think it is not credit card's fault, people just can not commit his own problems.

It's already fall, the stunning season which features both colorful flowers and falling leaves. Throughout the whole history of humans, Many poems were written to express people's impression about this special season. Some of them were very joyful and nagative , but others were a little bit sad and positive. Some people think that when the leaves fall off the tree, ir menas the end of a life. They also think that the beautiful colorful flowers just like the setting sun. They are just burning their last splendor, then disappear. It sounds very sad. On the other side, some people think that leaves leave the trees is a new start of thrie life. They fall off to the soil and taken by the roots as fertilizer. They start a new life as a new leaf next year. As for people, hometown is our root.No matter, how long we have left our hometown, and how far we are from our hometown,when we feel tired, just go back home. A falling leaf definitely comes back to the root. The best time of going home is lunar August 15th. It usually has the biggest and brighttest round Moon on that day. We call that day the Mid- autumn Day !

Today, I just wanna share with you a Chinese phrase “民族性格” which often seen in posts of Chinese media. What does it mean? let’s figure it out. First, I am about to break it down into two parts, because it is made up by two nouns- 民族and 性格. 民族 means “nation”, 性格 means “personality”. So 民族性格 refers to some behavioural and mental characteristics of a particular group in a particular country, that makes them recognized as being unique. However, the meaning of 民族性格 has been extended these days and it is regarding all the people born and rise up in a particular country, though I think the term has been weakened much that it becomes not so accurate. For some examples can show how the term is used, I recommend some content of social media. Some reels like “In Germany/Spain/etc. , we don’t……, we …..”.  民族性格 can be reflected on what they behave in a particular situation. What do you think? In my old days, I used to learn a lot of languages besides English: Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean and even Thais. I learnt each a little but no language is good enough. I realized I would want to learn only one language carefully and because of being busy, I quit all of them but English. From that time on, at times, I was amazed I still remember lots of grammars and vocabulary of Chinese and Japanese or I can read French sometimes. It makes me happy I am not forgetful as I thought.
