Why “I’ll ask her" sounds like "Alaska”? Try saying these out loud: "I'll ask her." "Alaska." Almost identical. Three syllables, stress on the middle one. This isn't a coincidence. In fast English, contractions and pronouns at the edges of a sentence — I'll, we've, he's, her, him — lose almost all their weight. The stressed word in the middle holds everything together. Four written words can sound like one. This is why fast English is hard to follow even when you know every word on paper. A few more examples: He's finished → sounds like ‘his finished’ They're hungry → sounds like ‘the hungry’ I’m coming → sounds like ‘am coming’ The fix: stop listening for individual words. Listen for the stressed syllable in the middle. 🎧 Audio below.

Learning any language comes with challenges. Some quit because of the lack of time or money. Some quit because of the lack of motivation. What are the challenges that you experience when learning a language? The more important question is how to overcome it? I studied English all my life and taught it as well and it's not challenge free. I also learned the Finnish language which was also challenging. Language learning can be time consuming and you need to integrate it in your life. What is the biggest challenge for you when it comes to language learning? #languagelearning #languageconversations

💡 Simple HSK1 Lesson: 是 / 对 / 好 These 3 words are super common for beginners but easy to mix up! Here is the simplest rule: 1. 是 (shì) = Am / Is / Are Used to define, explain identity (who/what something is). Example: 我是学生。(I am a student.) 2. 对 (duì) = Correct / Right Used to judge if an answer or opinion is right. Example: 你是对的。(You are right.) 3. 好 (hǎo) = Good / OK / Fine Used to describe quality or agree with a suggestion. Example: 很好!(Very good! / OK!)
A: 我们一起吃饭吧? B: ______!

Pronunciation Memo: Why "Ten Pounds" Sounds Like "Tem Pounds" Fluent English cheats. When two sounds meet, the first one shifts shape to match what's coming next. Your mouth is already preparing for the next sound, and the current one gets pulled along. This is called assimilation. Listen for it: * ten pounds → "tem pounds" * good boy → "goob boy" * in case → "ing case" * white paint → "whipe paint” * I should go → “I shoug go” Try saying these out loud. Which one feels strange in your mouth?
