Master's degree in Latin w/ 25 yrs. teaching experience; author of two widely-used Latin textbooks. I have an outstanding command of the Latin language, a keen understanding of Latin grammar and syntax, and a deep and meaningful knowledge of Hellenistic, Roman, and late-antique history. But more importantly during my 20 years of teaching I have developed an keen ability to *teach* the language. Rather than just being someone who happens to know a little Latin, I know both WHAT THE STUDENT NEEDS TO DO as well as WHAT THE TEACHER NEEDS TO DO in order to facilitate learning the language. Also, as I know six foreign languages -- several at a high level -- I myself have often been in the student’s shoes.

I am an empathetic teacher; whatever you're learning, I hope to make you feel at ease and confident that you will grow with practice. I work with students to set learning goals and discover the best methods of working towards them. I am knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and I love to talk about history and literature while we learn the language!
