What do you think of native English teachers who never try to learn the local language(s) of the place where they have long lived? People like that are seen very often in Japan, especially in big cities like Tokyo. They tend to live in an English bubble. It even seems to me that they unfortunately take advantage of Japanese people being very tolerant to people who cannot speak Japanese. When Japanese people meet an English speaker who cannot speak Japanese, it often tends to be the former who apologize, saying "Sorry, I cannot speak English". It might have been OK in the 19th century, when it was generally believed that Western civilization was far more excellent than all the others. However now we are living in the 21st century, when ideas like cultural relativism or cultural diversity are highly valued. Furthermore, when it comes to teaching a foreign language, isn't it very important to experience themselves how hard it is to learn any foreign language? People who have gone through that sort of difficulties can teach their students with great sympathy. It would uplift and motivate foreign language learners if they hear their teacher saying "I've been there." or "We are all in the same boat." referring to their own experiences trying to learn the local language(s). Please do not misunderstand me. I do not intend to criticize anybody. My point is that it would be nice for native English teachers to try to learn the local language because that would work as a spiritual bridge between teachers and students. Thanks for reading. Hope you have a pleasant day.

There are three days to go before the holiday of spring festival ends. With about 14 days, it is practically the biggest holiday in the year. Yet it seems that the happy time flies and soon it will be time to pack my luggage and return to the big city for work. Oh, how I adore the rural life! In the tranquil moments in the morning, usually I will stand before the window of the living room of my parent's farmhouse. There are no such hustle and bustle of the cities here. Amid a profound serenity, birds are singing pleasantly...The morning sun has been there in the blue sky ever since some 7'o clock in the morning. It shines brightly, peering into the small courtyard of the house and even illuminating part of the living room. There are somehow no visitors to the house. In a moment like that, I will make myself a cup of oolong tea, sip the tea and contemplate the good time that is passing by slowly... At night, after the shower, I will climb up to the terrace of the farmhouse where when I look up, it is the immense starry sky. By 10 pm, most of the neighbors have slept or prepared to go to bed and it is dark and quiet around. With less illumination in the village there seems to be more stars over my head...There are several constellations which I can easily identify. Occasionally there are area-planes, so tiny from the distance and with flashing red light passing hurriedly under the stars. I look at the old houses about our farmhouse and marvel how time flies...Over 20 years have passed since I lived here, then I went to the ever hustling and sophisticated world outside and many a things have changed...I try to record and go over memories on my mind... Then it is about to terminate this casual rural life and return to the big city which seem to me operate like a giant machine..People there lead a routine life: work is important that it should dominate the majority of their day time;work performance is important that it should worry constantly
