Settling in Ithaca

I moved to Ithaca, NY about one and a half months ago. Ithaca is a really small town with a population of about 30,000, one third of which are Cornell University students.
One of the things that is difficult when moving to a new place is that you have to start your life from scratch.
Sometimes this can be a good point because you can leave all the past behind and start off as a new person. But in return, you lose almost everything you've acquired in the past: friends, job, acquaintances and knowledge of the place, etc.
I came here leaving all my friends, family, job behind in Korea and I'll be living here as a foreigner whose language will never be as perfect as a native, which will put me in many awkward situations. 
As I was thinking of the negative side of moving to a new place, I may have gotten a little pessimistic. However, I do believe that I am lucky to have this opportunity of living in a new country and learning the language as well as the culture. I am seeing many new things that I'd never come across before.
I think I just have to be more patient with myself and not expect that I will settle in and have what I used to have back in my country so soon.
