Basically, you are right. There is no difference between those sentences.
I'd just say that "weswegen" and "deswegen" sound a bit old-fashioned but you can still use them without a problem.
In the answers however you can just omit "darum", "deshalb" and "deswegen". It doesn't sound wrong but there is simply no need in my opinion. You can just say "Ich frage, weil..."
