Is "kinder" or "more kind"the comparative degree of "kind" ? And why? Thank you

I have seen both "kinder" and "more kind". From my perspective, "more kind" is often used to emphasize.

According to the Oxford dictionary, only kinder exists. I doubt "more kind" is correct.
