Professional TeacherDid he pass away vs Is he deceased?
Why is "did" in the past but "is" in the present tense?

It's because "pass away" is a verb that means "to die", while "deceased" is and adjective meaning "dead". He died/passed away once, in the past. He is still dead/deceased.
