Intermediate English (B1-B2)

Are you an advanced speaker of English but are lacking consistent practice? Do you feel like you have reached a plateau in your vocabulary? 

In this class, you can expect: 
 ✔️ Controlled grammar and speaking practice of advanced grammar concepts, such as phrasal verbs and verb formation. 
 ✔️ Vocabulary growth through challenging English materials, such as NPR/BBC news, podcasts, music.
✔️ Engage in discussions on diverse topics, from social issues to global news, encouraging you to push your speech.

Advanced English (C1-C2)

Are you tired of feeling that you can't express yourself? Are you tired of only speaking about the same topics over and over again with no improvement? 

In this class, you can expect: 
✔️ Discussions on a wide variety of topics with material -- this can include the news (adjusted to your level), videos, or picture description activities. 
 ✔️ Vocabulary, idioms, and cultural references to grow your lexical resources.
 ✔️ On-the-spot error correction documented for you to review your grammar, vocab, and pronunciation mistakes. 
✔️ Speaking 85% of the class time -- I make sure to ask plenty of questions to keep you talking, expressing, explaining, debating, and describing.

Structured Conversation Class

Are you tired of feeling misunderstood? Are you unsure of how to pronounce the most basic words? 

In this class, you can expect: 
 ✔️ Fundamentals of the American English language -- identifying and applying the different consonants and vowels, contrasting them with your native tongue.
 ✔️ Fast English -- understanding reductions (gimme/wanna) and linking for a more natural spoken flow.
 ✔️ Intonation and rhythm -- sounding less robotic and elevating your overall speaking proficiency.

American English Pronunciation - Accent Reduction

Do you feel frustrated trying to study for the FCE/CAE exam? Have you hit a wall in your learning? 

Here's what you can expect: 
✔️An initial placement test to identify your strengths and weaknesses so we can immediately target these areas in our classes.
✔️ Cambridge-certified exam preparation material to ensure you are familiar with all aspects of the exam. 
✔️ Speaking practice in every class with corrections and analysis 
✔️ Homework -- sample exam exercises, grammar, reading comprehension or writing. All homework will be checked. 
✔️ Constant feedback and support throughout our lessons, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, accuracy, fluency, and exam strategies whenever possible. 

As with any of the exams, it's important that you practice as much as possible on your own, too. Self-study is crucial for practice and preparation. Remember, you can do it!

CAE Exam Preparation and Tutoring

I completed an online course at the UIC Barcelona focusing on resources for TEFL while completing the MEDDEAS Language Assistant Program in Spain.

TESOL certification program at the University of Florida. The Certificate Program entails 225 hours of instruction in class and the internship entails another 45 hours in class (270 in-class hours of instruction in total).  The TESL Certificate Program (18 credits) entails five core courses (each 3 credits for 15 credits): Introduction to Linguistics (LIN 3010); Introduction to TESL (LIN 3360); Second Language Acquisition (LIN 4721); Modern English Structure (LIN 3680); and Pronunciation for TES

I completed a Linguistics degree with a minor in Spanish at the University of Florida.

- Co-taught absolute beginner and beginner online English classes 4 times a week to a group of adult refugees alongside the Adult Education Coordinator 
- Directly translated Spanish to English to ensure students understood instructions and teacher assessed needs appropriately
- Tutored English to a Salvadoran refugee student twice a week using my own materials and instruction
- Recorded attendance of all classes and assisted in managerial tasks

- Led 18 English classes per week to Spanish students from preschool to 4th grade in a bilingual K-12 charter school
- Created engaging, age-appropriate activities to stimulate authentic English language use in the classroom using a variety of materials such as flashcards, music, balloons, and others. 
- Collaborated with fellow teachers to ensure students’ language goals are being continuously assessed and accomplished

- Created stimulating and engaging lesson plans using a variety of materials according to my students’ language needs and their parents’ expectations
- Incorporated online platforms and digital tools such as Google Slides, Zoom, and Kahoot! to create an engaging online learning platform and reach students in other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Communicated with parents to ensure students’ language needs are constantly being met

- Prepared students to face the reading, writing, listening, and speaking portions of the YLE, KEY, PET, FCE, CAE Cambridge exams.
