In this first lesson we will discuss your goals and expectations so that I can understand what you want to accomplish with your English lessons. This will help me to design a program to maximize your learning.

I will also explain my background and teaching methods. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions to determine if we are a good fit. if you decide you would like to proceed with lessons we can build a plan which will cover the areas you are interested in.

As a retired management consultant I speak the language of professionals such as accountants, consultants, engineers and managers. I worked as an engineer at Boeing for several years before getting my MBA and working 15 years as a management consultant in the oil and gas, manufacturing and chemicals industries. 

I can not only help you with your English, but also help you become more effective in your job, whether it is dealing with associates, bosses or subordinates.

I do not have a specific text book or materials. I will customize each lesson so that you learn what you want to achieve your goals.

If you want to improve your conversation or vocabulary skills we can role play business or technical conversations. If you are more interested in reading or writing we can interpret business or technical reports and documents and perhaps write one.

A key skill in any professional job is the ability to prepare and deliver a good speech. I can help you prepare for this as well as give you tips on how to prepare and deliver a powerpoint presentation.

Advanced English for Professionals, Engineers and Managers

120 hour TEFL certificate awarded October, 2021 with grade of B.

Teaching and training was a big part of my job as a consultant. I have given hundreds of training sessions to mid and high level managers, supervisors, engineers and other staff. The topics ranged from technical training such as problem solving and statistical process control to management skills such as communication and giving feedback. My job also required a lot of one on one coaching, so I am trained to observe and tailor my approach to my clients (students) in order to maximize learning.

As part of the Environmental Control Systems team, I helped design, build and test the air conditioning systems on Boeing 747 and 767 aircraft.
