This is YOUR customized Kiswahili lesson– whether you want help with a certain area of Kiswahili, or if you want to see if I am the teacher for you. 🤓 With my curriculum and materials, I generally work with motivated students long term, especially students who have partners, friends and relatives who are Kiswahili speakers. Before our Trial Lesson, try to tell me as much as you can about your Kiswahili journey so I can prepare for our first lesson. If you are a beginner, you will walk away knowing Swahili greetings and how to introduce yourself. 🤝 If you are at an intermediate level, we will dive right into the area of Kiswahili that YOU want to focus on. 🎯 If you're interested in conversational Kiswahili lessons, we will ONLY speak Kiswahili from our first lesson. 🗣️ Karibu!

You will also walk away from this lesson with a specific language learning goal in an established amount of time. For example, "I want to be able to _______ in Swahili within ___ months."

Once you're at the B1 level, we can begin Conversational Swahili. You'll know you're at B1 when you can do most things in my "Foundations of Kiswahili" course– describe yourself, your work, travels, studies, interests– when you can ask basic questions, grasp the basics of the positive and negative tenses, understand answers and phrases of slowly and carefully spoken Swahili directed towards you. Think of me as a teacher-friend who you can speak Kiswahili with.

For students at the B1-C1 level, come to class with 1 or 2 topics to discuss during our lesson: daily routines, language, music, something or someone in popular culture– or even history and current world events! You can also come to class with 1 or 2 specific grammar areas of Swahili that you want to practice through conversation. I enjoy talking about culture and society, anthropology, history and current events, and I love learning new things.

You will develop your grammar: pronunciation, form, meaning & usage through speaking & listening. We will develop more complicated verb tenses like conditional tenses and compound tenses, understand location tense aspects in greater detail, and improve professional and academic vocabulary. Conversation in the target language (no matter how simple) is the quickest way to learn that language. 

I can provide materials for you to reference as we are talking. Please have a notebook nearby, so you can write down corrections, parts of grammar, vocabulary, etc. It is preferable to have a laptop, headphones, and a good speaker. I'm confident I can get you to a B2-C1 level in the time your personal commitment enables you to. With regular study, we can systematically get you to a level where you feel confident not using English with native speakers.
